About CASUAL IMPRESSIONS
In this electrifying novel from USA Today Bestselling Author Kennedy Layne, the Safeguard team is coming ever closer to catching an elusive serial killer who might very well be hunting one of their own…
Sawyer Madison has spent the last few months hunting down a sadistic killer. He and his team don’t seem to be any closer to solving this particular case that has hit a little too close to home. Fortunately, they had all served in the Corps. That kind of training and dedication meant none of them considered quitting before the mission was done.
Camryn Novak had spent most of her childhood, and a large part of her adult life, dealing with her overprotective brother. So when an admirer becomes a little too obsessed with her due to her high-profile career, she decides it would be simpler to reach out to someone a little less emotionally invested.
Sawyer never expected to bump into the sister of one of his teammates while traveling on assignment. Women like her were off limits—one shouldn’t mix business with pleasure. One burning touch was all it took to make his good intentions go up in flames. Unfortunately, it won’t just be her brother’s wrath he’s forced to face when an unknown perp targets Camryn—it might very well be the same psychopath they’ve been hunting all along.

Sawyer sighed in resignation, honestly wondering why it had even bothered him that Camryn might have gone back on her word. She was virtually a stranger. She was Brody’s sister, and that truthfully shouldn’t affect him in any way short of another attempt on her life. What Sawyer needed to do was get his head on straight. There was no time like the present.
“Camryn, you are your own woman— old enough to make your own decisions and wise enough to make the right ones.” Sawyer relented a bit, not wanting there to be any animosity between the two of them. Well, technically the three of them. He would do well to remember that number. “I’m glad that Noel Cassi is keeping his distance, and I’m happy that you’re here to see Brody. He loves you, and he deserves to hear what happened in your own words. I’ve got things to do, so if you’ll excuse me. The two of you need to be alone.”
Sawyer stepped around Camryn, purposefully keeping his distance and priding himself on handling such a potential explosive situation. He had no doubt that Brody was waiting for his sister’s return. He’d let her share with her brother what she thought was best, knowing full well she would never disclose what truly happened in that hotel room that had him fleeing for his life.
He also should have known Camryn wouldn’t allow it to go unanswered as well.
“Why did you walk out on me?”
“Whoa,” Sawyer drawled out, bringing himself up short and turning around immediately to face her at the less than discreet utterance. He lowered his tone to make sure this conversation stayed between the two of them. “I did not walk out on you. I made the wise choice to retreat before things… progressed. We both know that it would have been nothing more than a fun afternoon that you’d regret.”
“And how did you come to that conclusion?” Camryn asked as she crossed her arms, not seeming to care that her brother was a mere hundred feet away. “Am I not your type? Do I strike you as a woman who only enjoys a fling? What could possibly have made you think that I only wanted an afternoon of fun?”
“Camryn, I told you the first time we met that I don’t play games,” Sawyer warned her, stepping closer so that this discussion could remain barely audible. “You know very well why I left that hotel room. It’s the reason I’m walking away now. Good luck with your brother, because you’re going to need it. He’s had time to prepare.”
“Did you not just tell me one minute ago that I’m my own woman and I can make my own decisions?” Camryn grabbed the material of his shirt to prevent him from turning around. She wasn’t going to let this go. “Let me ask you this one simple question— would you have left that hotel room had I not been Brody’s sister?”
No, he wouldn’t have left. Sawyer would have had her undressed and in bed as soon as his name had escaped her lips. He would have spent the day enjoying her exquisite body, bringing her to ever increasing new heights, and showing her just how bad the boy-next-door type could be with the right woman.
Only getting involved with the sister of a teammate wasn’t in the cards, and the only person who couldn’t seem to grasp that concept was Camryn. Well, he was about to clue her in on the reality.
“Camryn, you are Brody’s sister. That means several things, but only one bears any weight in our current situation— you are permanently off limits to me.”
